Residential

Residential Organizing

Searching for items is a waste of time and energy resulting in increased stress and decreased efficiency. Constant clutter drains your energy. Psychologically, a room full of stuff has less room for people, so you may feel crowded and out of place.

  • Are you always scrambling for car keys, flashlights, or batteries?
  • Are your closets stuffed with nineties fashions and a now worthless Beanie Baby collection?
  • Are bills and office papers mixed in with the junk mail? Has work space become storage space?
  • Does your family’s morning routine look like a skit from The Three Stooges?
  • Do you feel anxious when you try to organize or tidy your space?

OrganizeSmith gets it. You feel stressed and out-of-control when your space is disorganized, but you don’t have the time to do much about it, don’t know where to start, or are overwhelmed by the idea of doing it by yourself.

Why Do You Need to Get Organized?

Reduce stress in your life. Are you constantly looking for things? Do you have too much stuff and no place to put it? Do you feel anxious every time you try to tidy up your space?

Save money. Be more efficient. Avoid late fees, lost checks and cash, and duplicate purchases

Save time. Find what you need when you need it. Don’t backtrack across town on errands or spend time worrying about what needs to be done.

How to Get Organized

Evaluate

Identify hot-spots. Where and what are your key problem areas (aka your hot-spots)? Who owns space/stuff where these hot-spots occurs? Does everyone have landing pad when they come in house? What are your challenges when it comes to staying organized? What are other members of household’s difficulties? Do you have buy-in from all decision makers?

DeClutter

It is incredibly difficult to stay organized if you have too much stuff. Periodically purging items that are unused and unloved is essential.

We remove everything out of your problem area, grouping like-with-like. Then come the difficult questions. Will you need this in foreseeable future? Could you replace this item if you needed it and didn’t have it? Are there any legal or tax-related implications in getting rid of this? What is the worst thing that would happen if you didn’t have this?

Create Systems

Everything needs home, so we will make place for all of your stuff to live and then help you develop the tools and habits to make sure that by end of the adventure (or day) items get home safely. Think in zones. There should be a place for everything and everything in its place. Our systems are designed around you and your family’s needs.

Maintain

Getting organized is only the beginning of living an organized life. Staying organized is an ongoing process. Give yourself time to get used to the new systems. It may have taken you a long time to get disorganized – give yourself time to get out. Be realistic with yourself. Being organized is similar to being healthy, both require consistent choices in our day to day lives.

Where to Start

Where to start? We understand how stressful, overwhelmed and out of control your life can feel when things are disorganized. You may feel anxious at the thought of sorting through years of clutter and not know where to start. The first step is to identify the space(s) that bothers you the most; this will allow you and your family to see a real change. Typical starting points include the garage, dining room table, closets, home office, and kitchen counters.

These are some of the many areas of your home we can help you create greater organization and functionality:

  • Bedrooms
  • Garages and basements
  • Kitchens and pantries
  • Hobby and craft rooms
  • Bathrooms
  • Nurseries, kids’ rooms, and playrooms
  • Laundry and utility rooms
  • Closets, cabinets, and drawers
  • Home offices: including paperwork and electronic files

Time Management

Time management impacts how your life works, or doesn’t. Time is just like space. There’s only so much of it and your schedule can get just as cluttered as your physical space.

Beyond that, when you’re exhausted and overwhelmed, it’s hard to use the time you do have productively. Maybe you’re missing deadlines, paying late fees, harming your credit, or spending money eating out because your refrigerator is empty.

With a cluttered schedule, you get to what’s urgent, but not important. That important thing you’re not getting to? It could be you. We will help you:

  • Prioritize what’s important
  • Identify time wasters
  • Set goals that will motivate you to succeed
  • Creating boundaries and managing expectations
  • Tips and techniques for email management
  • Manage tasks and projects effectively
  • Make time for what you really care about
  • Establish a structure for menu planning, grocery shopping, and food prep
  • Initiate a bill paying system to manage paper and avoid late fees
